I'm Riva, your newest of newbies, bringing you the next character from that series of light novels of unadulterated badassery, Fate/Zero!

Meet Servant Saber, the stoic little girl with shiny armour, an invisible sword, and a permanent poker face. She's a bit of a drywall, if a painfully polite and formal one.

Oh, and she's King Arthur in her reality.

Welcome to the game, Riva! I know quite a few players who have been really excited about this app coming in. I'm pleased to finally get to see a Saber in action.

I noticed tsunderes pimping out the game, and I could no longer endure a Rider-less existence. (The Gilgamesh-player in a non-LJ game I'm in has been trying to get an Iksander for ages)

The Fate series seems to be the ultimate realization of AWESOME!!!!!!! The Caster at the game recently summoned a Hydra to battle Daleks and I went, "...this is AMAZING" for days.

It's not even so much the power behind it as "ohgawd that looks so cool" or "omg I read about this in my mythology class!" It's like the condensation of nerdgasm. At least for me. :x

When I started reading the LP (because Rassilon forbid I play a game for myself) I spent FOREVER trying to figure out who from mythology Archer was meant to be until Christy told me who he actually was.

Ooh, I don't know what those are yet.

They're kind of like the other side of the coin as Heroic Spirits and act as a balancing counter-force of humanity itself whenever there's a factor for the extinction of mankind.

Instead of being the spirits of those who became legendary though great feats and become elemental spirits of humanity, counter guardians are unknowns who achieved a single great feat through some outside force. What they typically do is make a contract directly with the World in exchange for a miracle during their lifetime.

Supposedly after Saber returns to her own time and dies, she would become a Counter Guardian just as Archer did, since she made a similar contract. OTOH, she's...well, pretty famous for her reign outside of that, so it looks like she could go either way.

...Oh, huh. I would have thought that King Arthur's general fame would counter it, yes, but okay! Cool.

That's my personal opinion on it, but when it comes to the Nasuverse, you never know. :|

Plus, it may be that after the Holy Grail War ritual is dismantled after the 5th War, summoning Heroic Spirits by magi is made impossible but the planet summoning Counter Guardians isn't, so it might be that no one wants to give up the GAR.

I guess that would make sense. I am told that Nasuverse has an explanation for almost any eventuality...

Anyway...Fate's re-imagining is actually one of the better ones out there, IMO. There's enough lampshade hanging and Rule of Cool to suspend disbelief. Plus, I have to admit King Arthur as a woman is pretty awesome. XD
