Monsters! Monsters! Come Get Your Monsters!

LIKE-LIKES

This is a like-like. They are cylindrical slushy monsters of grossness. They're blobby, a bit slimy, and they attack their prey by engulfing them head-first.

Just think about that for a moment: this pile of god-knows what leans forwards, wraps its gaping mouth around you, turns you upside down, and suffocates you for a few long moments before spitting you out. And it will do its best to steal something from you while you're at it. Keep your shields away from these things.

The Like-Likes exist in the same general areas as the zombies. And yes, they may occasionally try to eat a zombie, and the venus fly-traps may occasionally try to eat Like-Likes and zombies. But all the monsters know to stay out of the water.

HOLY WATER DEMON OF OH MY GOD

Certain areas of the Plane have flooded over with calm, clear waters that can be seen through with ease. It all appears safe enough. There's debris in the water but the Plane is full of things that can float in waist deep water. You may feel a little prickle of fear but considering the places the water blocks now, you have to tread it.

Except there's something in the water. You can hear the water shifting, growls and gurgles that don't sound like any animal could. That's when you see the splashes. It almost looks like something is walking on the surface of the water but there's nothing there, not under the surface or on it. Just the splashes and a hungry growling. No matter where you are, it seems to know and follows you.

If you have the misfortune of falling into the water, be quick. A shattering roar will announce that this thing, whatever it is, is onto you and it's fast. Fast enough to be on top of you and start clawing through its meal, except you still can't see it. You can only hear it and feel it ripping you apart. It will react this way to any sort of dinner, so even a piece of meat thrown into the water will be eaten by the unknown.

Nothing can hurt it. You can't even touch it. The only thing you can do is stay out of the water or be very, very quick. The thing is relentless and starving and it is always, always there.

So what are these 'certain areas'? Well, for one, the water is around the bar. There is no avoiding it. If you want to get a drink, you will either have to hop over crates or die a horrible, painful death. There is also one near but not around the kitchen. You could get to the kitchen safely. And then you could get steak to feed the cute terrible invisible water demon.

CHOICES, SURPRISES, & SIDE-EFFECTS: CLARIFICATION ROUND!

We've had a few questions about how the choices work of the past days, so we are going to clarify everything just so we're all on the same page. There are two types of choices: choices where the answer immediately affects the person who chooses and choices where the answer affects another person. Characters signed up for choices alone are more likely to get the second type. Characters sighed up for surprises are much, much more likely to get the first type.

If a choice asked is a choice made for someone else, then only characters who signed up for surprises will be presented with the consequences of these. They will not be told what question lead to this; they will only be emailed by the mods telling them which character gets a consequence.

There is a small exception for this: some choices asked are asked for the sign-up questions being sent over the weeks. The first of those was the nightmares, and there will be another coming up soon. These effects are the consequences of people's choices, but since people sign up for them, people other than those who signed up for surprises can get them. These sorts of consequences require more planning from the mods (we have to get the right number of the right sort of answers) which is why there are fewer of them.

So, to sum up:
-characters signed up for choices will almost never get questions where the consequence hits them
-characters signed up for surprises can get questions that effect them or other people
-characters signed up for surprises may randomly get consequences emailed to them
-characters who sign up for particular result posts get exactly what they sign up for

And an extra note on side-effects: these last for as long as the players want them to last.

HALLUCINATIONS

As a reminder, those will be ending Wednesday.

I WISH I HAD A CHARACTER WITH A SHIELD. JUST SO THEY COULD BITCH ABOUT THE SHIELD-EATING BLOB.

[personal profile] semantics 2010-10-12 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly we need to put out a table filled with shields to match the table filled with weapons.
millenia: (Haseo || damn straight!)

That would be kickass. All the better for me to vent my childhood frustrations of always losing my $@!%ing shield to the buggers... >D

What is with you guys and Zelda monsters?!

I swear to bob, I'm about to fall into a turkey coma and all I'll be able to dream about is LIKE-LIIIIIKES.

/turkey coma high-five

I WAS VERY FRIGHTENED BY ZELDA GAMES AS A CHILD. ACTUALLY I STILL AM. YOU ARE JUST LUCKY WE HAVEN'T WHIPPED OUT ANYTHING FROM MAJORA'S MASK.

That's so sad.

YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT...

Moon and general atmosphere aside, MM didn't get me that bad, actually. Possibly because I was too afraid of it when I was ten and didn't touch it until years later when I had metaphorically manned up.

That was wise of you. If I had done that, I don't think I'd be scarred as I am now.

It's a long, long walk.

I can kinda...make myself scared. Really buy into it and whatnot. But my sister, she's younger than me, right? And we always played together. Holy shit, did it get to her. She'd like, hide behind me half the game.

Shush we're in....vaguely the same area.

THOSE VIDEOS WERE REALLY SCARY!!!!!! *FLAILS*

Also, I am...somewhat confused by your choices and surprises explanation, but I think I get the general idea. Basically, enough choices of the proper kind can add up to a plot like the hallucinations? Is that what you mean?
oliverplus: (What?)

[personal profile] oliverplus 2010-10-12 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
...that sounds like it would be horribly complicated.

Also, if I have nightmares tonight, I'm holding you responsible.

[personal profile] semantics 2010-10-12 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
And that is why there are a limited number of those general sign-ups.

The water monster was all Kisha, okay?

Roxas will never get any sleep with all these disturbing noises. I APPROVE.

So... if we want a character to have an effect for their choice, we pretty much need to sign them up for a surprise round?

(Also, if you'd like, you can simply link to this for the first link and it will skip to that time automatically.)

[identity profile] sunkenlight.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ahah. See, I had it sort of backwards in my head. Like, thinking if you just signed them up for a choice, they'd get to choose something that would bite them but in a more personal way, because they chose it, whereas surprise was just a roulette of Bad Things Can Happen. Is it too late to sign up for more choice things?

... randomly, is it possible we could get these plot posts tagged with something? Or could there at least be a central post with like, all of the current monsters on it at once? So many are showing up, it feels like it would be easier to have them all in one place so I can know what areas are safe or where someone will have to be to see/avoid a specific monster.

[identity profile] rationalist.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
We were debating tagging them now or later because of what the plot is called in between us sort of gives away a big thing. But I'll put together a general post with links of all the posts so far! And then just link to that in future posts and add links to it in general. Does that work?

[personal profile] whitelighter 2010-10-12 03:36 am (UTC)(link)

Correction: we're in love with Zelda. A crush is too fleeting to represent our love.
